Woolley spent the 2014-2015 with the GOJHL’s London Nationals. In the past, he’s also spent time with the Strathroy Rockets and St. Thomas Stars (GOJHL). Woolley also has a season of Junior A experience with the Cornwall Colts in the CCHL.

“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to play another year of junior hockey in the London area. I’m excited to not only get on the ice with the Lakers, but also to be a leader for some of our younger guys and help create a positive, winning environment for the Lakers in our first GMHL season,” Woolley said.

GM Hayden Maass stated, “We’re extremely excited to have Michael on board for our first year. Michael’s experience will be unmatched on a lot of teams in our league and that is absolutely invaluable, and goes a long way to showing the type of individuals that we’re looking to build around. Michael is a 1994 born defender, who will play his one and only GMHL season with us here in London. We’re looking to facilitate and accommodate for any personal or professional goals he has, as we do anyone else.”

Woolley, a former Sarnia Sting draft pick, and alumni of the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs ‘AAA’ program, helped the London Nationals upset the Chatham Maroons in the first round of the GOJHL players, before they were ousted by eventual Western Conference champions, the Leamington Flyers.

“Michael Woolley was a fierce competitor for London in the postseason, and all year long,” says London Lakers scout Ian Kennedy.

“He made the Nationals a difficult team to play against, and he’ll do the same for the Lakers next season. Michael is a physical player, who is willing to drop the gloves, and will punish opposing forwards. It’s also nice to add a local player, who can help us develop our younger kids, and who knows what it takes to win.

Woolley will be participating in the London Lakers spring camp, which is scheduled for May 3 at the London Sports Park. Any players still interested in attending are invited to contact Hayden Maass at or Ian Kennedy at
