The GMHL’s London Lakers Junior A Hockey Team are pleased to announce the signing of Ontario Hockey League veteran Jacob Jammes.

Jammes, an Ottawa, Ontario product, spent two seasons in the OHL with the London Knights, and most recently the Mississauga Steelheads.

“Signing a player of Jacob’s caliber and junior experience is amazing. We plan on having more kids with this type of background on board,” says Head Coach Jeff Zehr of the signing.

“Building a championship organization from top to bottom takes time,” continued Zehr. “We are now picking up the pace, and more families and young men are choosing to be Lakers.”

A second round pick, 31st overall, of the London Knights in 2011, Jammes played one season of Junior A with the CCHL’s Gloucester Rangers before joining the OHL.

“Jacob has a next level skill set, and brings positive leadership qualities to our organization,” said Director of Player Personnel Ian Kennedy.

“We expect Jacob to make an immediate impact on and off the ice in London, as we work to build a championship team and culture.”

Last season, the 1995 born forward spent the majority of the year away from hockey to focus on his studies at Western University in London, where he is studying business, before making a brief appearance with the Aylmer Spitfires for a playoff run.

“Our team and league focuses on helping athletes find success both on the ice, and in the classroom, and Jacob personifies that,” added Kennedy of Jammes, who is a former OHL Academic Player of the Month.

According to head coach Jeff Zehr, London’s educational opportunities, and the organization’s focus on character players has been attractive to prospects.

“I would like to think it’s our staff that are attracting these great people and players, but I know having Western University and Fanshawe College here in this great City of London is very attractive.”

The London Lakers will make more signing announcements in the coming weeks, and will hold their final spring tryout June 7, from 3:30-5pm at the London Sports Park in London, Ontario. Any player interested in attending this skate should contact Ian Kennedy at
